For years people have dismissed modern miracles with a scoff and a roll of the eyes. Blowing them off to be little more than freak coincidences. It would never occur to them that maybe these random freak events of nature are actually the result of another person. Perhaps a small child, or an adult on the run for his own life. People wouldn't be able to handle a shock of this magnitude, fantasy come to life, and Laishen's Defense Against the Paranormally Endowed makes sure this shock is kept from the public. D.A.P.E., as most people refer to it, was formulated under Jason M. Baker III as a guise to save these people from having to face a cold and cruel reality. Society does not accept those who are different from the norm. A few individuals may not mind you, but the rest of the population will seek to cast you out.
Most of the citizens in Laishen don't really know what D.A.P.E. stands for, they just assume it's merely a disaster response team. They're always cleaning up the beautiful country. Not even the gift eds really know the true meaning of D.A.P.E. unless they have been 'rescued' by it. The organization is so secretive, not even the agents who work for it are allowed to let anyone know. This is to ensure the highest quality of efficiency by the agency itself. The only member truly known of is Jason, and that is because he is the founder and is often on the news explaining things away, such as why D.A.P.E. travels around the country cleaning up messes. 'For the betterment of our society.' So, no one really cares to try and find out more about it, and as long as D.A.P.E. is there to clean up the messes it appears it will remain that way.
Under the watchful eyes of D.A.P.E. Laishen remains safe and innocent, clean and pure. The towns of this small country shine with a glow of ease and peace. What should they have to fear? Their military is by far the strongest in the world. They have the most modern technology, and the smartest minds to ensure it stays that way. Their country is wealthy, the wealthiest in the world. Everything is wonderful in Laishen. And, to keep with the fitting theme, D.A.P.E. is by far the most advanced in its field. Thanks to a brand new invention, by Jason no less, D.A.P.E. is now able to harness and control the gifted community. This allows them to get even closer to their goals of ridding, err, saving the unknown gifted race.
Hidden in the alleys and back streets the ware between D.A.P.E. and the mutant race is going strong. Not many mutants know why, or how, D.A.P.E. is tracking them. Some go in willingly, believing they'll find a sanctuary to live in. These are they ones that usually return to the streets to try and recruit others to join D.A.P.E., but something is always different about them after their stay with the agency. Others, fight and run, intent on staying free and living their own lives. These, runners, have much to fear. Not only has D.A.P.E. been able to track them down, the agency is no able to walk among the gifted by using spies. These moles are those who have been previously captured, come willingly, or just want to make some easy money convincing others to submit. Now, faced with the traitors in their own ranks the gifted have learned that no one is to be truly trusted, not even their own kind. How will they be able to survive, if they don't even know who the enemy really is?
